About Josh, Rachel, James and Ava
Our Story
On June 1, 2024, Josh Ponder, the son of Country Club of Asheville's Membership Director, Deborah Ponder and Retired father Frank Ponder, sustained a serious spinal cord injury in a swimming pool accident. That same day, he underwent extensive surgery to repair a spinal break, which involved inserting two rods and four screws for stabilization. Josh is currently paralyzed from the mid-chest down and has limited use of his hands. Due to swelling, medication, and the recent surgery, it will take time to fully assess the extent of the damage.
His recovery and rehabilitation will be a long and challenging journey. He has been transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia, for specialized rehabilitation and physical therapy.
Amidst this difficult time, Josh and his girlfriend, Rachel, welcomed the arrival of their daughter, Ava Lee Ponder, 9 lbs. and 1 oz born on August 8th. We appreciate any contributions to support Josh's recovery. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
